Hello beautiful people and I welcome you all to my place. My name is Mobashir Farhan and I love to spend my days learning new things that excites. I’ll tell you more about myself along the way. So, my question is why you are here ? I think because you also want to start freelancing as a side hustle to earn some bucks. Isn’t ? .
Coming to the point now, today I’ll be sharing how I got my first paid client and what were the decisions that actually lead me getting paid. I always loved drawing and used to make handmade logos before. I also used to post them on Instagram and Twitter. Although on Instagram there were around 100 peoples who follow me but on Twitter it was not even 10 🤣.
One day I got a comment in one of my logo design post on Twitter and said “Can you help me with a Logo ? . After reading the same I Immediately visited his profile and saw he was from India living in England (UK) and the profile picture was of “Ranbeer Kapoor”. I first thought I should not dig deeper thinking it maybe fake one but then I manged to dm him asked him for some details about which kind of Logo does he want ? . Well if I’ll tell you a secret then you’ll laugh. I actually didn’t know how to use illustrator, and also I was not having any laptop at that time. I actually used to draw logo on Adobe Draw android app, yet I was peeping my nose there without thinking about whether I'll be able to deliver or not ?.
Not only that, but I then asked him about all the necessary details, and then he asked me about my charge. But you all know he was my first client, so I didn’t know how much should I charge. So I told him to wait for a while, and then I googled average logo design cost and I found it was around 15-$25 which is 1000-1800 INR. I wasn’t able to take decision whether I should take the project or not because I was not having Illustrator and Laptop and also was not having any idea how much should I charge . Guess what did I do ?
I finally told him my charge around just 8-10 dollar because I was a little nervous and said I’ll deliver the logo by tomorrow, but he was happy with that and said it will work for him. So now was the time I should start working on the Logo as I have said I’ll deliver him tomorrow, so I asked him to first pay me half the amount then I’ll start working on the same and the rest will be delivered after the final submit.
So he asked me my Paytm number and then paid me half of the charge and told me to start working on the Logo.
After that I opened Pinterest for some inspiration and started working on the Logo. Still I was making the logo on Adobe draw mobile app only. Finally, the next day the Logo was ready. It was actually for a group of people who are living in London and their home city was Odisha . Hence, I gave some taste of culture and monuments from Odisha and mixing it with some taste of London.
Here is the Logo
Finally, I mailed him the Logo with multiple formats to make it compatible for use and then he was happy with my design. After some time he paid me the rest amount and also was ready to write a recommendation for me on LinkedIn. It was an awesome experience for me as I realized that if you are determined to do something Almighty will always help and most of the just one “Yes” can open opportunities for you in ways you have never imagined like in my case from Twitter where I didn’t even have 10 followers
. After one year the same client again contacted me for making a video wedding invitation which earned me big bucks, and it was also a funny and great story. Will share you next time.
So what are the key points to learn from this incident :
If somone gives you some good oppurtunity just say “Yes” and then figure out the remaining things along the way becuase there is nothing like a perfect time in this world.
